Braille & Tactile Signs
Braille can be included in any of our signs without detracting from the visual design, or separate Braille plates produced to match other signs. We have already been asked for ceiling suspended signs including Braille so please ensure that the idea has been thought through when you discuss the design with your customer. We try to ensure that all of our Braille signs meet the new disability legislation but often we do not know where the signs will be used. Common sense is the best tool to ensure that Braille signs are not sited six feet up a wall or in other such places. As soon as useful guidance is made available (at present there is a lot of conflicting advice floating about) we will be able to provide an advisory service as to the use of tactile Signage. Many aspects of tactile Signage need to be regulated such as positioning and which grades of Braille to use. One of the main problems facing blind people in a strange building is which way a door may open, all this information can be included in Signage as long as some sort of standard format is agreed upon. We expect some sort of guidance to be available soon from the RNIB and as soon as we can we will publish a guide on this site for our trade customers.
