Multitechnic was founded at the beginning of the 1970s to create very high quality artworks and decorative items in a range of metals. The same high-definition process that had recently been developed for manufacturing silicon chips was found to be effective for etching into metals. To this day we use the same technology, although we have improved the process to produce better results when etching metals such as brass and stainless steel. We became a limited company in June 1973.

Although etched metal signs had been part of this repertoire since the beginning, demand for the sort of etched signs that we manufacture today did not become significant until the advent of computerised graphic design in the late 1980s. This prompted designers to move away from the limitations of mechanical engraving as they sought to reproduce a growing number and variety of typefaces, and more adventurous designs for logos and graphics.

By the end of the 20th Century, etched signs had become the dominant product that our customers required. Not long after this we took the decision to cease manufacture of all other products, and to become trade-only manufacturers for the sign trade, and for engravers.

In 2011 we added a new technology to our capabilities when we introduced Digital Anoprinting into aluminium. This has complemented our chemical etching, and has been well-received by the sign trade, particularly for interior wayfinding in more challenging environments.

Over the past few years we have gradually renewed all of our major production equipment with custom-built designs of our own, as a continuing programme to streamline our facilities to better serve the needs of the sign and engraving trades. This has even extended to our artwork and administration to make all activities within the company as fast and as efficient as possible. Our short-term manufacturing capacity has more than doubled as a result, allowing us to provide an even quicker service for larger projects such as apartment and hotel signage, and similar installations where lead-times are notoriously short.

Our aim is quite simple, to be the best supplier that you have ever had, both in terms of product quality and customer service. Most jobs, even including very large projects that involve hundreds or thousands of signs, are quoted within one hour. Our typical turnaround for smaller jobs is one or two days, and larger projects are completed in a fraction of the time that you are perhaps used to. Our intention is not just to give you the best possible service, but also to keep improving that service.
